Greater Life Church was birthed in 2017, when two churches merged together and unified their vision for something greater. We are a spirit-filled and spirit-led church whose mission is to make Jesus known. We are a community of people that come from different backgrounds and upbringings, but that's what makes us so unique. Greater Life Church exists to be a beacon of hope and a place of security and restoration in the Charlotte area.
Greater Life Church was born in 2017, but we can look back at over 90 years of heritage and God's faithfulness. Garr Church was founded in 1930 by Dr. A.G. Garr, who was one of the first Pentecostal missionaries and evangelists to present a Full Gospel message. Over the years, thousands of people have been saved, healed, and have experienced the power of God through this ministry. One of the unique elements of our heritage is how in 2017 Garr Church and Mint Hill Community Church came together believing that greater things could be accomplished together.Pastor Andrew Byrd (Mint Hill Community Church Founder) and Pastor Randy Briscoe (Pastor at Garr Church) agreed that God had called them to pursue a new vision together. On May 7th, 2017 both churches voted unanimously to become Greater Life Church and since that day we have seen growth in our church, in our relationships and in our ministry team.
At Greater Life Church we have a 3-fold mission statement. Open Heavens, Open Hearts, Open Hands. This represents our core values of life, ministry and community. In our church, as in many organizations, mission is “what we do”, vision is the plan of action or “how we do it”.
Open Heavens
This statement represents our vertical relationship or our relationship with God. On several occasions in scripture we see this actually happening. It always brings an incredible worshipful experience. It is our hope that we will remove any obstacles or distractions everytime we gather together in worship to experience an Open Heavens, truly being changed and transformed by the power and presence of the Holy Spirit.
…You will see greater things than that.” 51 He then added, “Very truly I tell you,[i] you[j] will see ‘heaven open… John 1:51
Open Hearts
This statement represents our horizontal relationships with others within the local fellowship of Greater Life Church. Life is challenging and God has designed us to live life together. There is great strength and support when you have open and honest relationships with people in the Body of Christ. It is our belief that when Christians walk together in unity we experience support and encouragement to overcome many challenges that we face in this life. We mourn with those who mourn, we rejoice with those who rejoice.
11 Oh, dear …. friends! We have spoken honestly with you, and our hearts are open to you. 2 Cor. 6:11
Open Hands
This statement represents our posture in generosity, servitude and outreach. It is our belief that every believer who considers Greater Life Church their home church and family will recognize their calling to be contributors not only consumers. We believe approaching missions local and abroad with open hands in generosity setting at least 10% of our budget each year towards these efforts. We believe that every church family member can serve the body with their time and talents helping add to the overall spiritual health of the local church.
24 Give freely and become more wealthy; be stingy and lose everything.
25 The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed. Proverbs 11:24-25
